The Hitcher

CSUEB · 2025

The Hitcher book design project involved selecting a short podcast to reinterpret as a book cover, selecting a donor book to replace its original cover and recreating accurate yet modified internal pages. This process required measurement of type and margins, as well as the development of consistent paragraph and character styles. Additionally, a publishing company logo was created to appear on the spine of the newly designed cover. The publishing logo embodies the qualities of a loyal hound dog: faithful, trustworthy, and honest. These characteristics reflect the values one would want from a publishing house. The Hitcher cover communicates the opposite: it draws imagery from the biblical Kiss of Judas, and blends it with intentionally selected visual cues from the true crime genre to evoke the theme of betrayal.
